Seven Months (and a half)

It's so hard to believe that Jackson is over seven months old! We took him to The Picture People today for his seven month portraits. We had originally intended to take him last week, but his nasty double ear infection was just too much for the little man to take.

Belated Welcome to Ambrose Dante Benner

I am so behind on blog updates.

Jackson has a new cousin! Jesse's older brother Kelsie and his wife Regina (and their daughter Mary) welcomed Ambrose Dante Benner on August 17. We're excited that there's another Benner Boy in the family, although now Jackson does need to share the title of "cutest Benner Boy". I guess Jackson can still lay claim to the cutest Benner Boy born in April... or the cutest Benner Boy living in Erdenheim? Seriously though - look at that picture to the left - is that not an adorable baby? Must be from Regina's side... Kidding! Besides, it really has to be in the Benner genes, to have two such adorable little men...

We celebrated Ambrose's christening last Sunday, November 15th, although here are some early pictures of Ambrose, taken in early October, when some of Jesse's relatives came in to town for a family wedding:

Halloween Parade at Day Care

Jackson's day care had a Halloween parade at 10:00am on the Friday before Halloween (10/30). Jesse and I rearranged our schedules to march with Jackson in his parade! He looked so adorable dressed up as Yoda. Some of his classmates dressed as Mickey Mouse, a cat, a scarecrow, and a pumpkin. Of course I think that Jackson was the cutest!

You may remember from an earlier post that school parades are very special to me and my mother. So Mom Mom came to the parade to walk with Jackson too! Jackson was so happy to see her! She was dressed as Shane Victorino... maybe that's why the Phillies lost the World Series??

My office encourages dressing up for Halloween, and since Jackson was Yoda I dressed as Princess Leia. I think we look adorably geeky together! I took Jackson's stuffed R2-D2 pillow into the office with me so people would know who I was (in case the buns didn't give it away). We have a contest for best costume. I didn't win... I think if I had Jackson with me instead of the R2 pillow I would have had a much better chance.

Video, and more pictures, after the jump.

Smell My Feet

This Halloween we were very excited, because it was Jackson's first outside of the womb! While it's not nearly as exciting for Jackson, we were super-happy to take the little Yoda through our neighborhood for some trick-or-treat action. Jesse and I decided not to dress up - we'll be sure to go in costume with Jackson when the little guy is older, and has more of a say in the costume theme.

Cuddlin' to sleep

Jackson has begun to wean... and one of the benefits of Jackson's weaning is that he does not need to nurse at bedtime, since he has just eaten one hour before (dinner is at 6:00ish, when Jesse and I come home from work). Now that Jackson doesn't need to nurse, other people can rock him to sleep.

As many of you may already know (although for those of you who don't, it's my fault for not updating the blog as regularly as I should), my grandmother passed away two weeks ago, and her funeral was this past Sunday, November 1. Grandpappy came over to our house, and Jackson did what he does best - snuggled!

That night, for the first night, Jackson didn't need to nurse before bed. My dad was able to rock Jackson to sleep, and I think that cuddling with Jackson helped to keep his mind on more pleasant things.

Now I won't lie, I love the bond Jackson and I have through nursing. But as Jackson grows, we'll find new ways to bond. I've decided to give up control (heh!) and let Jackson lead the way with his development (within reason). I don't want to do things with Jackson because I want to do them - I want them to be things that he wants to do (again, within reason). So, while a part of me is sad that this is the first step toward Jackson weaning, and toward Jackson growing up and not needing me as much, I know that he'll need me in other ways, and that I have to let him go at his own pace.

Jackson adds a +2 bonus to your charisma modifier

but a -2 penalty to your stealth skill, and gives opponents a +2 bonus on all perception checks related to smell (but only when Jackson casts "stinking diaper").
