Jackson has begun to wean... and one of the benefits of Jackson's weaning is that he does not need to nurse at bedtime, since he has just eaten one hour before (dinner is at 6:00ish, when Jesse and I come home from work). Now that Jackson doesn't need to nurse, other people can rock him to sleep.
As many of you may already know (although for those of you who don't, it's my fault for not updating the blog as regularly as I should), my grandmother passed away two weeks ago, and her funeral was this past Sunday, November 1. Grandpappy came over to our house, and Jackson did what he does best - snuggled!
That night, for the first night, Jackson didn't need to nurse before bed. My dad was able to rock Jackson to sleep, and I think that cuddling with Jackson helped to keep his mind on more pleasant things.
Now I won't lie, I love the bond Jackson and I have through nursing. But as Jackson grows, we'll find new ways to bond. I've decided to give up control (heh!) and let Jackson lead the way with his development (within reason). I don't want to do things with Jackson because I want to do them - I want them to be things that he wants to do (again, within reason). So, while a part of me is sad that this is the first step toward Jackson weaning, and toward Jackson growing up and not needing me as much, I know that he'll need me in other ways, and that I have to let him go at his own pace.
