The Nursery! (Artist's Rendition)

Today we're painting the nursery. If you've been to The Ancestral Manse, and you used the bathroom at the top of the stairs, then you might remember the Red Room. We decided to make that room the nursery, and to do an ocean/ undersea theme, so the Red Room, once a lovely MAB Paint Cheerful Cherry, is now in the process of becoming Glidden Jazz Blue (Jazz Hands!). I wish I had thought of which room would have been the nursery when we were picking the room colors, because I'm going to miss the red walls, and it would be too much work to paint the middle room in the Cheerful Cherry.

We also got a ceiling fan/ light fixture to replace the light fixture that we inherited with the house. After the room is painted, we're mostly ready for Jackson to make his appearance in 11 weeks. Now, the picture with this post is not the room - we'll have pictures of that when it's all done, which won't be for a while, because we'll be getting the bedding set closer to Jackson's arrival date. But the picture IS the set we've registered for, called Sea Quest, and that my father is buying as a gift to Jackson.

David and Jenn came up for the weekend, which is great that we have the extra help. But even better - Ann, Stephanie and Jake are here too, which... could there be anything better than having friends who are professional theater techs, set designers and scene painters to help you pick your colors and paint your walls? Stefie just went through the room, and smoothed over all the drips from the primer layers. And, major thanks to my in-laws (especially Tom) who had a crapload of painting supplies (brushes, rollers, pads, drop cloths, and even a gallon of primer) so we only needed to buy one gallon of primer and two gallons of paint - because the room was such a strong red, we needed to do two coats of primer before even thinking about putting color on the walls, which required two gallons of primer. Also, major thanks to my sister, and by extension her in-laws and my mother, because now that my nephew is two, he has a big-boy bedroom set, and Jackson inherited the baby furniture they had purchased for my niece Dylan that was then passed down to Brody.

So, as we speak, the second coat of primer is drying, and Jake and Jesse are installing the ceiling fan/ light. We'll finish painting tomorrow, and put the crib together. Next weekend we'll apply a cute wall border in our Sea Quest bedding theme and hang the window treatments, and we'll be ready to go.
