Holy CRAP!

Those were my exact words, "Holy Crap," when the doctors said "he's almost here, do you want to look over the screen?" He's here and Nikki and I are officially, excitedly and irrevocably parents.


At around roughly 36 weeks, Nikki started to itch. This itch grew, blossomed and then blew the (expletive deleted) up around week 36 into a burning sensation that spread all over Nikki's body. The doctor's agreed to test Nikki for something called Cholostasis. It's a condition wherein the mother's liver can't properly regulate bile, and since Jack's liver isn't equipped to handle it it could pose a threat. This late in the pregnancy the risk is reduced, but it's still a concern. The possibility of this condition, plus the horrendous rash that was making Nikki want to claw her skin off was enough for the doctors to agree to induce Nikki...scheduled for today.

So...last night we came in for the induction. Nikki found that even a week in advance she was finally dilated and finally effaced as well. The moment before they were going to introduce the pitocin the nurses checked his positioning and said...huh.
They wheeled in the ultrasound and checked and sure enough...he was breach.
That meant c-section, which we knew was a possibility, but it meant that it was not going to come after a possible day and a half of failed labor. As C-sections go, if necessary, this was the best option.
Last night they sent us home, giving us a last cuddle with our cat and a very nice last sleep in our own bed, and we came in at 11:00 for a scheduled 1:00 procedure.
Jackson Francis Benner was born at 1:44 pm on Monday April 6th. He came out at a healthy and loud 8 pounds 10 ounces and 22 inches long. He has a swirl of dark hair and--mercifully--Nikki's nose.
We wanted to let everyone know that everyone is fine, and that we couldn't be happier. He is, as the great Mr Miyagi said of Daniel San..."pretty okay."
