We were concerned about Jack's weight - he came in at 8lbs 10oz at birth. When we left the hospital, he was 7lbs 14oz, which means he lost 10% of his birth weight. We had an in-home visit from a visiting care nurse the Monday after we took Jack home, and he weighed 7lbs 10oz. We had been taking him to the pediatrician on a regular basis for weight checks, and (on his 3week birthday) we visited a lactation consultant, who confirmed that Jack was 8lbs 11oz and weighed more than his birth weight. This means we can stop waking Jack up every three hours and let him set the pace with feedings. We'll be taking him back to the lactation consultant or the pediatrician in a week for another weight check to confirm that he's doing well. So, how's it going, now that he's setting the pace??
Last night he awoke approximately every three hours or so, and then slept for about five hours after his first morning feed. He woke again about three hours later, slept for five hours, ate, and then was awake for about three hours until his next feeding, where he cluster fed for about an hour and a half, then fought sleep afterward, and didn't want to be put down. Is this his pattern? Who knows! But during that cluster feed, I truly felt like a cow being milked.

Check on the cow being milked. When Lukas was first born, he spent one evening eating approximately every ten minutes for TWO HOURS STRAIGHT. I swear I thought my you-know-whats were going to fall right off. Bless you, woman. I get your pain :).
