Yesterday (8/12) we took Jackson to the doctor for his four month checkup. He was a real trooper during the visit, and while he did cry during his four shots, he only cried for a couple of minutes... unlike Mommy, who STILL cries when she has to get shots, and whimpers about it for hours afterward. Jackson's stats are:26 inches long
14lbs. 11oz.
14lbs. 11oz.
That puts Jackson in the 80th percentile for height, and only the 50th percentile for weight. Because of this height/weight discrepancy, we have a hard time getting shorts for him, because the size that fits his waist looks like pantaloons around his skinny legs.
Also, to put Jackson's size (or my lack thereof) into perspective, my inseam measures about 29inches. Jackson is almost as long as my entire leg...
Jackson was 22 inches at birth, and 23.5 inches at his two month checkup. He's grown four inches since birth! Jack weighed 8lbs 11oz at birth, and is now at 14lbs 11oz; he's gained six pounds.
The doctor checked Jackson's ears, nose, and breathing, which was all perfectly fine. Then came the shots... Daddy explained to Jackson what was going to happen, and that it would hurt, but only for a few minutes and then it would be over. I wish Jackson was a little older, because then he'd get a lollipop for his troubles. At this age all we can do is give him snuggles and cuddles...
Then, the nurse gave him an oral vaccine, which Jackson took with no problems. The nurse was quite impressed with the fact that Jackson didn't spit any out or try to fuss his way out of taking it. I'm impressed too - Jackson's only four months old, so we can't even explain to him that this stuff is for his health... Jackson is so good-natured and calm - I hope that he's always this cool!

After the oral vaccine, it was time for the shots... Daddy held Jackson's hands, both to keep Jack still for the shots and to provide reassurance. Daddies are good for that sort of thing. Jesse talked to him the whole time so Jackson would know that he had support and comfort nearby.
But needles hurt!! And Jackson had to get four of them - two in each thigh. While Jackson did cry (and who wouldn't?) I was really impressed with his fortitude - by the time we left the exam room, Jackson had stopped crying, and he was asleep shortly after we pulled out of the parking lot of the doctor's office. The ladies at day care were also impressed with Jackson's very pleasant demeanor!
Yes, he's growing physically, but also developmentally. Jackson is sitting up (with assistance). He's rolling over onto his side and will be rolling over any day now. With us holding him upright underneath his arms, Jackson's even moved his feet in a step-like fashion! The pediatrician said that Jackson is exactly where he should be.
Jackson is certainly developing into his own man. His likes and dislikes are not yet apparent, but I'm sure as he grows he'll make his preferences known. I look forward to introducing him to life and all it has to offer - Will he want play baseball or perhaps football? Will he enjoy music and want to play an instrument? Will he like the theater and want to act? I can't wait to see what he picks as his favorite things...
Also, as a funny aside - the RN who did Jackson's exam (she's the one in the first banner picture on this post) was the sister of one of Jesse's classmates in high school!
